This morning was a walking tour of The Louvre. First we had to walk to the meeting place of the walking tour, then walk to the museum, and THEN start the walking tour. Phew! But the morning was cool and clear and people were not out and about yet. It was interesting how they did this tour. Our guide had about 20 people in her group. There were other groups depending on the language spoken. Our name tag said 'ang' for anglais, or English. Another one was 'port', we think for Portuguese. Of course Chinese and Japanese and Spanish were others. There's a vocation for a student of foreign language !
Once inside the museum, we were given a transmitter and ear phone. This way our guide talked to us, and only us, as we walked through the exhibits. She spoke English very well and did an excellent job. We had many, many, many other groups around us at all times and it was hard keeping up with our guide at times but it worked out quite well. The more famous works of art always had a crowd around them so I didn't always get a good picture. Sometimes I wanted to look longer in a room but the guide was moving on. All the information with the art work was in French so it helped tremendously for her to give us info in English. Probably the hardest one to see, of course, was the Mono Lisa. The painting was behind a rope and there were so many people in front, I just held my camera above their heads and clicked. The reflection on the glass made it hard to see well. I also could not change the angle from which I was shooting.
Ok, we just got in from Montmartre and it's 12:30am. We have to get up at 6 so I'm cutting this blog a little short. Will put some photos on though so you're not too sad!
They now have 2 goats to mow the grass around the Louvre!

Notre Dame. My camera completely ran out of batteries here so I used my phone camera inside. Exhausted from walkingand barely made it back to hotel, my feet hurt so bad! Jacky looked it up and said it was 2.7 miles one direction from our hotel to Notre Dame. That doesn't include the walk through the museum. Sandals didn't quite help with that much pounding the sidewalk. Back to the walking shoes tomorrow .
Montmartre where we ate supper at A La Pomponette on Rue Lepic. Much quieter and more truly French! We went there for the view as well but didn't see anything. By the time we found the restaurant, recommended by our concierge, it started pouring rain. Also, the French do not get in a hurry over meals...so we 'ate' for close to 3 hours. When Jacky and I had stopped for lunch yesterday, could not get the waiter to bring us the bill. He would smile and nod as he scurried from one table to another. Everyone just gets comfortable for social time with each other.
Appetizer...escargots!!!! Absolutely delicious. Only problem, I had to share and didn't order enough...
Veal with Gorganzola sauce for my main course, Jacky has beef with bernaise sause. And wine of course. Wine with every lunch and dinner.
Night life in France...It's midnight on a Saturday and has been raining...
Your food looks wonderful. What a day! I can imagine your feet hurting. Should only wear walking shoes in a museum. Pictures great as usual. Keep up the good work! Love your trip so far. Only one more city left. Wow!!
